THE STUDENTS GAIN THE FOLLOWINGS AT MATHEMATICS COURSES IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL;

They understand the mathematical concepts.

They can relate between the concepts and transfer those concepts and relations to daily life and other disciplines.

They can express their thinking and reasoning during the process of problem solving.

They can use the strategies they developed to solve the problems in daily life.

They can use the mathematical terminology and language correctly.

They can use the estimation and mental calculation skills effectively.

They develop attitude towards mathematics and feel self-confident.

They give importance to systematic thinking, carefully reading, patiently producing solutions, and fulfilling responsibilities.

They develop researching, information producing and using skills.

MATHEMATICS COURSE ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL

The aim of the course is explained to the students, or they are encouraged to discover it.

With a sample case or question, the students’ preliminary knowledge about a subject matter is checked and Preparatory Tests are given to check the needed existing learning.

Oral or written complementary activities are carried out to make up for the lacking knowledge or as a reminder.

The students are given the opportunity to test their learning and skills with an example or practice. If they have any mislearning or lacking knowledge, they are given complementary and explanatory questions and answers to help them comprehend the subject.

The subjects are taught beginning from the related preliminary knowledge, then the mid-level learning outcomes and the upper-level learning outcomes are achieved.

The subject and content-appropriate instructional methods are determined by the teachers. The teachers who teach the same grade level make sure that the practices are completed in each class.

The visual materials are frequently used by means of technology and particularly the geometry concepts are taught in the three-dimension classroom.

The subjects are related with daily life and the environment.

The international curricula are examined, and the helpful approaches and examples are adapted to the classes. They are used both in the class and exams.

The mathematics and geometry rules are not given directly. The students are encouraged to discover them.

The course materials are shared with the students via TEDMOOD and thus, the students attend the classes prepared.

MEASUREMENT AND ASSESSMENT

Each semester, 3 written mathematics exams are given.

The students are given quizzes throughout the year. The areas of struggle identified through the quizzes are compensated with subject revisions.

According to the grade level and course hours, one or two class activity attendance grades are given. Assessment criteria:

Attending the class prepared,

Submitting homework on time,

Active participation in the class,

Project works,

Quizzes,

Students’ individual and group performance and responsibility in the activities.
